Feeling-Seen®, the creation of synthetic memories – emotional corrective experiences for children in a family therapeutic setting
Instructor Credential & title
Michael Bachg: Registered Psychotherapist, International Certified PBSP® Trainer, Head of the Albert Pesso Institute Germany and the Feeling-Seen® Training Institute Founder Feeling-Seen
Neglect, traumatic experiences and wretched family structures influence the child’s neuronal activity and shapes the structural development of the brain. Memories from the past are influencing its Perception, Emotion, Cognition and Behavior in the presence. Trust and safety is then hard to find in oneself and in relationships to others. Emotional corrective experiences in the hypothetical past can impede the impact of those negative life histories. The concept of emotional corrective experience had been presented by Franz Alexander in 1946, before it was picked up in the foundation of PBSP® in 1963 and was adapted for the work with children in Feeling-Seen® in 2004. In this two-day workshop Michael Bachg will demonstrate, how to create synthetic memories in the three dimensional space in collaboration with the child in the presence of the parents. The emotional corrective experience must be imbedded in the mind’s body, so that it can be linked to long-term memory. This approach is based on the theory of memory reconsolidation. Parents, who attend those sessions get the chance to understand their child better. In addition, parents are getting support by a special parental training program in theory, sensitive interaction in combination with experiential sessions for themselves
This course wants to highlight the significance of emotional attunement between parents and children for the regulation processes of emotions and the development of the self.
